XVII Power Generation ConferenceBetween 7 and 9 September 2011, the 17th Power Generation Conference entitled "Innovations-Future of Power Generation" took place in Jachranka. The conference was organized by TurboCare Poland S.A. from Lubliniec (formerly Energoserwis S.A.), a company specializing in generator and transformer modernization as well as providing services for commercial and industrial power generation markets in Poland and worldwide. Almost 200 people participated in the conference from technical universities, scientific institutes, power stations, power thermal plants, power distribution companies, PSE and representatives of industry related to energy sector. This was an international conference, hosting over ten attendees from USA, Canada, France, Germany, Switzerland, Slowenia and other countries. Content-related supervision was provided by a scientific committee chaired by, Stefan Sieradzki, PhD.,Eng. (TurboCare Poland S.A.) and the other members of the committee were as follows: The conference was opened by Fryderyk Zębik, M.Sc.Eng., Management Board President, Managing Director of TurboCare Poland S.A., who made a presentation on the company business and growth directions for the coming years. Prof. Jan Popczyk, Ph.D.,Eng. gave an interesting speech on a new look at challenges for modern power sector. The points presented in the paper provoked a lively discussion during the forum moderated by Jerzy Przybysz, PhD, Eng. and Stefan Sieradzki, PhD.,Eng. The second day of the conference was divided into four sessions. The first of them was led by Prof. Jan Zawilak, Ph.D.,Eng. and Bolesław Słowiński, M.Sc.,Eng. from Rybnik power station. The session was dedicated to manufacturing, modernization and operation of rotating machines, transformers and power equipment. Papers in this subject-matter were presented by technical universities, scientific institutes and specialists from TurboCare Poland S.A. The audience listened with great interest to the speeches on generator operation given by Prof. Bronisław Drak, Ph.D.,Eng. and Jerzy Przybysz, PhD.,Eng. Modern designing and production solutions applied to manufacturing of new transformers were presented by Michał Mnich, M.Sc.,Eng. from TurboCare Poland S.A. The second session dedicated to monitoring and diagnostics was chaired by Prof. Tadeusz Glinka, Ph.D.,Eng and Daniel Pawłowski, M.Sc.,Eng, president of ZPBE "Energopomiar-Elektryka" from Gliwice. A presentation on dynamic monitoring of end windings with the use of FOA detectors technology, by foreign guests Imisława Holdern, MSc.Eng. and Marius Cloutier, MSc.Eng., received great interest in this panel. Following that, Mladen Sasic, MSc.Eng., made a presentation on "On Line monitoring of hydro generator stator and rotor windings". In this session, among other papers, it is worth mentioning the one dedicated to measurements of partial discharges of electrical machines, presented by Sławomir Szymaniec, Ph.D.,Eng., from Technical University of Opole, and the paper focusing on power losses in the industrial station transformers powering non-linear loads, presented by Janusz Rak, Ph.D,Eng., from Technical University of Częstochowa. The third after-lunch session was led by Prof. Kazimierz Zakrzewski, Ph.D.,Eng. and Marceli Kaźmierski, PhD.,Eng. Main subjects of this part were calculations and designing. Among others, papers in this panel were presented by specialists from TurboCare Poland S.A., on testing of dynamic properties of generator stator winding ends, by Rafał Maniara, PhD.Eng. and on modern methods of electromagnetic calculations, by Paweł Berger, MSc.Eng. In addition, a presentation made by Wojciech Pluta, PhD.Eng, entitled usefulness of experimental models of loss calculations in the grain oriented and non-oriented electrical tapes aroused great interest. The second day of the conference ended with a poster session led by Bronisław Drak, Ph.D.,Eng. It included ten presentations and special attention was drawn by a paper written by Grzegorz Staszyński, MSc.,Eng from TurboCare Poland S.A., dedicated to welding and welded joint quality control of large steel structures manufactured for power industry. Another interesting presentation was made by Jerzy Wawrzyńczyk, MSc.Eng, on "Wastes cause more fear than construction of a nuclear plant in Poland". A summary of the conference was provided by Prof. Kazimierz Zakrzewski, Ph.D.,Eng., a chairman of the Electrotechnical Committee of PAN (Polish Academy of Sciences) who thanked the speakers for presenting subjects of significant importance and the attendees for active and substantial discussions. During the conference 36 papers were presented demonstrating achievements in the scope of modernization, manufacturing, diagnostics and monitoring of electrical machines, transformers and power equipment as well as, experiences were shared concerning operation of the units. Very close cooperation between TurboCare Poland S.A. and Polish scientific institutes and foreign companies has to be emphasized, which found reflection in numerous presentations. Mr. Fryderyk Zębik, president of TurboCare Poland S.A., officially closed the conference and thanked all the guests for participation and, invited them to the next,18th Power Generation Conference that will be held in 2013. It is worth mentioning that during the conference interesting cultural events were organized, showing the audience the Mazowsze region folk music, a cabaret and songs of the Old Warsaw. The attendees took part in trips to the Modlin Fortress and to Dębe Hydroelectric Power Station. In the coming future, some part of the papers presented during the conference will be published in Przegląd Elektrotechniczny. |
